Obtaining Police Reports
Police reports are made available during the Police Department’s regular business hours, 8:30am-4:30pm.
Please have ID ready when asking for a copy of a police report.
There is a small fee of $.05 per page of the report.

Initial Firearms Application
When applying for an initial firearms ID card and, if so desired, a permit to purchase a handgun, you must pickup a Firearms Application Packet from Police Headquarters or fill out the downloadable/fillable PDF avail on this website . You can pickup a copy at the Records Bureau between 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday or at the Police Communications window any other time.
Firearms applications and mental health forms must be completed in its entirety and accurately.
Fees
$5.00 in cash or personal check made out to Howell Twp for the card.
$2.00 in cash or personal check made out to Howell Twp for each permit to purchase a handgun.
If there were ever criminal charges filed against you, please add a disposition of the incident.
Previous Firearms Application
When applying for a permit to purchase a handgun, lost or stolen ID card, or change of address on firearms ID card, follow the below procedures:
Complete firearms application (duplicate application for change of address, lost or stolen ID card), mental health form, request for criminal history form (yellow form) if a record check has not been obtained with a 6 month period, and a copy of your firearms ID card.
Fees
$18.00 money order or certified check made out to the Division of State Police (this fee is for the Criminal History Record Check form)
$2.00 cash or personal check made out to Howell Twp for each permit to purchase.
